Amethyst Drop Earrings with Antique French Sacred Heart Medals

These divine opera length earrings feature a pair of antique nineteenth century French Sacred Heart medallions in sterling silver with ornate filigree. At the top of each drop are faceted 8 x 6 mm oval natural Amethyst in a lovely shade of Iris. These are framed in silver beading. Dangling romantically from the filigree edged medallion are larger 10 x 14 mm oval faceted Amethyst in the same wonderful shade of purple. An elegant Rococo style engraved mounting with silver beading enhances the glorious drop.

Amethyst has been one of the world's most revered stones for many centuries. Found in Brazil, Bolivia, Mexico, Africa, Canada, Russia, the USA and Europe, this stone has a rich history that many civilizations have placed in high value. Many believe that the Amethyst crystal was synonymous with luxury. As such it was highlighted in crowns, scepters and rings, Christian Bishops once wore Amethyst rings because its purple color was meant to symbolize royalty and an allegiance to Christ.
