Engraved Sterling Silver 19 th C. Parisian SOUVENIR Horseshoe Necklace with Kingman Turquoise

$3,650

Exquisite French engraved SOUVENIR medallion detailed with 13 lovely round Kingman Turquoise cabochons. Highly collected medals like this originated in France, England and Ireland during the 19 th. Century often designed with Horse, Ladies names, French cities and classical coats of arm type design themes. I am especially fond of those with horse and Equinne elements.

Born as a humble guard for a horse’s hoof, the horseshoe slipped from the stable into the realm of symbol and ornament. Forged in iron and steeped in belief, it came to embody protection, luck, and safe passage. Across medieval times and Renaissance Europe, it reached a peak during the Victorian era. The horseshoe was refined and fabricated into gold and silver jewelry with its upward curve imagined as a vessel to cradle good fortune and hold it fast.

During the modern age, the horseshoe’s meaning loosened but never faded. It reappeared in the clean lines of Art Deco, the romance of Western adornment, and conveyed man's visual language in contemporary design. Whether cast in precious metal or reclaimed from use, its simple arc continues to speak of labor and luck, tradition and renewal. Enduring and adaptable, the horseshoe remains a small, resilient bridge between belief and beauty, where craft and hope quietly meet.
