19 th. C. Venetian Cameo Cuff with the Goddess Leda and Turquoise

This sterling silver cuff bracelet features a hand carved nineteenth century cameo depicting the Greek goddess Leda, who was the queen of Sparta, as well as the mother of Helen of Troy, who incited the Trojan War. Upon Leda's chest is the image of a swan, representing Zeus, who took the form of a swan to seduce Leda. This piece combines imagery from the Renaissance with the romanticism found in Greek mythology.
