Jill Garber Western Bolo with 19th-Century Italian Micro-Mosaic Cross
A wearable work of art, this one-of-a-kind bolo by designer Jill Garber unites the soul of European antiquity with her signature Western romanticism. At its heart is an authentic late–19th-century Italian micromosaic cross, originally crafted in Rome during the golden age of devotional mosaic art. The intricate floral panels—each composed of hundreds of hand-set glass tesserae—reflect the exquisite craftsmanship of Italy’s renowned micromosaic tradition, which flourished between c. 1880 and 1910 as pilgrims and Grand Tour travelers sought finely made religious treasures from the Eternal City.
Jill has re-imagined this historical cross with striking originality, setting it into a bold sterling silver-beaded frame and adorning it with hand-selected turquoise stones that echo the cross’s luminous sky-blue mosaic ground. The piece is finished as an elevated Western bolo on a braided leather cord, merging centuries-old artistry with contemporary couture sensibility.
A radiant fusion of heritage and handwork, this exceptional bolo captures Jill Garber’s gift for transforming rare historical objects into modern heirlooms—each one an intimate treasure that carries the poetry of the past into the present.
